Buyers Guide to Computer Speakers

!: Buyers Guide to Computer Speakers

A good set of computer speakers can be an ideal way to listen to music, play games or watch movies with realistic sound on your computer. At the store, you may be overwhelmed by the amount of choices since hundreds of companies make various types of speaker systems. In general, computer speakers fall into several primary categories. A pair of mini-stereo speakers will be the cheapest. Usually they are small and compact and inexpensive, but will probably not reproduce the full range of audio frequencies and the bass will be weak or nonexistent. In some cases, these speakers can actually attach to the sides of your monitor in order to not add clutter to your desk. You can also find large stereo speakers which will have a separate larger woofer to reproduce the mids and low tones. These will cost a bit more. If bass frequencies are important to you, you can find a pair of stereo speakers paired with a subwoofer. The subwoofer typically sits on the floor under your desk in order to provide low tones and vibration.

People who are truly picky about sound and are looking for the absolute best will opt for a surround sound system. The most common type is referred to as a 5.1 channel system. It has 2 front speakers, a center speaker which is primarily used for dialog, and two rear speakers. It also has a single subwoofer for the bass frequencies. These systems are more expensive and will take more time and effort to integrate because of the larger number of speakers, but can result in a more satisfactory listening experience.
